What is the greatest gift someone could give you?

What is a gift? Are there different meanings of it for different people, or just different expectations?

Wikipedia says, “A gift or a present is an item given to someone without the expectation of payment or anything in return”.

The next question that comes is does a gift have to be materialistic or could be something that is intangible, but the most valuable?

I asked many of my friends what they thought was the best gift anyone could have ever given them. The most common answer I got was ‘Time’, followed by ‘Respect’ and ‘Love’ and ‘Peace’.

The person giving the gift matters more than the gift received. Two people could give the same gift, yet the meaning and emotions behind it is completely diverse. The meaning of the gift changes when the person giving the gift changes.

For me, the greatest or the best gift that anyone could ever give me is their attention and belief. (I don’t mind some Harry Potter merchandise also :P)
