Mother’s Day has always been about love, the purest kind. It’s that one day we pause to thank the incredible woman who brought us into this world, nurtured us with her warmth, and stood by us through every joy and stumble. It’s a day of hugs, heartfelt words, and maybe even a shared cup of chai while reminiscing about childhood memories.
But this year, as we celebrate the woman who raised us, let’s also remember another mother we often take for granted—our motherland, India.
India—she’s more than just a country. She’s the soil we first stepped on, the scent of rain on dry earth, the rhythm of folk songs, the spices in our kitchens, the festivals that colour our lives, and the values that shape our souls. Just like our own mothers, she gives without asking. A place to call home. A culture to be proud of. A history. An identity. She’s been quietly loving us all along.
And yet, in the rush of our daily lives, we often forget to love her back.
So this Mother’s Day, let’s stretch our hearts a little wider. Along with pampering our moms, let’s do something gentle, something kind for India. It doesn’t need to be big. Plant a tree. Pick up litter from a street corner. Say no to plastic. Support a local artisan. Stand with the armed forces. Change the narrative towards India. Be biased for your nation. Be proud of your nation.
Because honoring our mothers isn’t just about words. It’s about action. And there’s no greater act of gratitude than giving back—to the woman who gave you life, and to the land that raised you.
This Mother’s Day, let’s gift India the love she deserves.
Jai Hind.
